Today was the day we embarked on our 12 day journey. Very early morning wake up, to make our 5:30 am flight from Boston to Phoenix. Flight was a breezy 5+ hours with minor turbulence and we arrived to overcast, rainy weather.
After picking up our rental car, we had plenty of time before we needed to check into our Sedona hotel, so we lined up a few destinations.
First Stop was sustenance in Rock Springs Cafe. Interesting venue with a cafe, saloon, beer gardens, gift shop and more. Our breakfast was plenty and biscuits and sausage gravy was a highlight.
Second stop was Montezuma Castle National Monument in Camp Verde, AZ. We added our first National Park stamp to our book and proceeded on our short, 1/3 mile trail.
It was incredible sight to see. It's the 3rd National Monument dedicated to preserving Native American Culture. This 20 room "high rise" apartment is a construction marvel and epicenter of the larger Sinagua community that resides here.
Third Stop on our drive to Sedona was Alcantara Vineyard. We enjoyed taste testing a variety of red and white wines, noshing on cheese platters and adoring the scenery.
Our final destination was our hotel in Sedona. The majority at our drive we were in national forests. Mostly land barren of animals and structures but full of shrubs, cacti and surrounded by mountains on all sides. As soo. As we crossed over into Red Rock County all the hues changed. Red clay everywhere and stunning mountainous structure every which way you looked.
Unpacked and exhausted we dragged ourselves across the parking lot to Molé for some outstanding Mexican cuisine,,, tequila included. The sunset views of all the red rocks filled us with excitement for our next days adventure.
Awesome pictures! Have a great time!
